Exporters involved in legal disputes with several private sector banks over foreign exchange derivative deals are now accusing the latter of violating the Foreign Exchange Management Act guidelines. Around 50 exporters in various states including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Punjab have taken private banks like ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Yes Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and HDFC Bank to court over foreign exchange derivative deals.
Market watchers believe that the change in guidelines fly in the face of some of the recent initiatives taken by the government, such as easing norms for foreign portfolio investors.
They said the notice was issued, after completion of the probe, under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).

Engineering and construction major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) reported a 25 per cent rise in net profit attributable to the owners of the company for the January-March quarter of 2024-25, owing to higher revenues and an exceptional gain. For the quarter under review, L&T posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 5,497.3 crore, while revenue rose 10.9 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) to Rs 74,392.28 crore.

The country's foreign exchange reserves surged to $576.98 billion as on March 31, 2021 from $544.69 billion at September-end last year, an RBI report said. Foreign currency assets (FCA), a major component of the overall reserves, increased to $536.693 billion as at March-end 2021 from $502.162 billion, the report noted. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) on Monday approved the introduction of a new asset class, designed to offer greater flexibility to fund managers and target investors with a higher risk appetite. The markets regulator also cleared the liberalised Mutual Funds Lite (MF Lite) framework, aimed at fund houses that solely launch passively managed schemes.
